When the mountains turn white and the valley settles into its quiet winter rhythm, Morzine and Les Gets become the perfect backdrop for cozy, cinematic photoshoots. Whether you’re visiting for a family ski holiday, a couple’s getaway, or a surprise proposal, these alpine locations offer something truly magical.
As a local photographer raising my own kids here, I’ve spent countless winter days exploring these spots. Each one captures a different side of the Alps — from peaceful lakes to panoramic peaks — all easily accessible and ideal for relaxed, natural moments.
Here are my five favorite locations for winter photoshoots in Morzine, Les Gets and Avoriaz:

If I had to choose just one winter photoshoot location, it would be Mont Chéry. Sitting high above Les Gets, it offers a breathtaking view across the snowy valley — and on a clear day, you can even spot Mont Blanc glowing in the distance.
It’s also one of the easiest spots to reach: you can park right next to the lift, take the Mont Chéry téléphérique (the closed cable car), and after a short 100-meter walk, you’ll reach a beautiful open plateau. That’s where I usually shoot — the snow stays pristine, the light is soft, and the views are unbeatable.

Families love it because it feels like a real mountain adventure without the hike. It’s peaceful, dramatic, and incredibly photogenic — the kind of place that captures the quiet magic of the Alps in winter.
Just next to the plateau, there’s also a wide pedestrian trail that winds through the pine forest, offering a completely different atmosphere for photos — quieter, more intimate, and beautifully framed by tall alpine trees. It’s perfect for adding variety to your session, combining wide open mountain views with cozy winter forest scenes.

Practical Info:

In winter, Lac de Montriond transforms into one of the most magical places around Morzine. The lake often freezes over, surrounded by steep cliffs and dense pine forests, creating a quiet, almost otherworldly atmosphere.
Because of the cliffs, the lake stays in shade for most of the winter — the sun doesn’t reach it until around mid-February. It can be very cold here, but after a fresh snowfall, when the trees are still coated in white, it becomes one of the most breathtaking spots in the entire valley. The stillness, the muted light, and the layers of snow make it feel like stepping into a winter dream.

From mid-February onwards, the sun begins to touch the lake in the afternoons, bringing back some warmth and creating a beautiful play of light across the snow and ice. It’s a wonderful time for sunny winter portraits or family photos with a bit more color and contrast.
It’s a great location for all kinds of sessions — family shoots, couple photos, or winter proposals. The open space near the lake is perfect for kids to play or sled, while photographers will appreciate the variety of natural backdrops — from the frozen lake surface to the dark forest lines and mountain reflections.

There’s also a short walking path along the lake’s edge that’s usually compacted in winter. It offers lovely perspectives of the frozen lake and cliffs, perfect for adding variety to your photoshoot.

Practical Info:

This location is especially convenient if you’re staying in Avoriaz for your holiday — everything is within walking distance, and the village itself becomes your photoshoot set.

Perched high above Morzine, Avoriaz is one of the most distinctive ski resorts in the Alps — and it looks incredible in photos. Built entirely of wood and snow-covered from top to bottom, it feels like a scene straight out of a winter movie.

I often start photoshoots with a short stroll through the village — the architecture and snow-dusted streets make for great candid moments. But my favorite area is near the entrance to the resort, just before you walk in from the top parking zone. There, the view opens up dramatically toward the surrounding peaks, offering a perfect mountain backdrop.

For families, the luge piste next to Aquariaz adds a fun twist. Kids love it, and those playful moments often become some of the best photos.

Practical Info:

The top of Pleney offers a lovely panoramic view over the valley and surrounding peaks, with Mont Chéry visible in the distance. It’s not the most dramatic viewpoint in the area, but it’s charming, accessible, and perfect for a relaxed winter photoshoot.

To reach the main photography spot, it’s just a 3-minute walk uphill from the télécabine to a flat open area with wide views. For families with kids or anyone who prefers to avoid walking, you can also take the nearby magic carpet lift to reach the same spot easily.

For those willing to go a little further, there’s an optional 10-minute uphill walk from the flat area to the summit, where you get a 360-degree view over the valley and surrounding mountains — a great way to add variety and extra impact to your photos.

This location works well for couples or families who want a mix of comfort and alpine scenery. If you’re staying in the center of Morzine, it’s within walking distance to the Pleney base station, making it an easy start for your session.
At the top as well as at the bottom of the telecabine, several restaurants offer a warm chocolat chaud for kids or a vin chaud for adults — a nice treat after your shoot.

Sometimes, the most beautiful photos are taken right where you’re staying. If your chalet is spacious or has a terrace with a mountain view, it can be the perfect setting for a warm, intimate winter session.
I love shooting at blue hour, just after sunset, when the lights from inside start to glow and the mountains fade into soft twilight. These sessions feel personal and cozy — perfect for capturing family reunions with grandparents, parents, and kids, relaxed couple portraits, or simply the beauty of winter evenings in the Alps.

During a chalet session, I usually take both formal group photos on the terrace or inside, but I also encourage guests to simply enjoy their time as if I’m not there. This is when the best candid moments happen: parents chatting over a drink, kids playing in the snow, having a snowball fight in the terrace garden, or enjoying board games and other playful activities inside. These natural interactions create memories that feel real and heartfelt.
Chalet sessions also work beautifully during the day. Snow-covered terraces, sunlit interiors, and mountain views offer endless opportunities for bright, airy photos, while small details — like hot chocolate, blankets, or playful activities — add charm and authenticity.
Each of these locations has its own magic — from the open vistas of Mont Chéry to the frozen stillness of Montriond and the glowing warmth of your own chalet.
Whether you’re here for a holiday, a proposal, or simply to celebrate time together, I’d love to help you capture your story in the snow-covered beauty of Morzine, Les Gets and Avoriaz.
